The general policy-making body of Faith Fellowship
is the Board of Elders,
which is elected by the congregation. The Board of Elders oversees the
overall financial and spiritual concerns of the church. Members of the
Board are elected from the members of the church and serve a two-year
term. Nominations to serve on the Board of Elders are done by a Nominating
Committee of Board of Elders members and the Senior Pastor. Elections
are held in November or December of each year at a meeting of the entire

Members of the Board of Elders of Faith Fellowship Aurora are concerned
principally with the spiritual welfare of the congregation. Through
prayer and service, they minister to the community and support the church's
pastors and programs in varied public and private ways.
Elders are chosen by the people and work together with pastors to exercise
leadership, government, and discipline within the church. It is
their duty, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the
faith and life of the congregation. Together with the pastors,
they encourage the people in the worship and service of God, equipping
and renewing church members for their tasks within the church and their
mission in the world.
After the Apostle Paul established churches, he appointed spiritually
qualified persons to serve the church that are variously called Elders
or Overseers in the New Testament. These were chosen based upon their
spiritual qualifications which Paul detailed in 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and
Titus 1:6-9. In general, Elders are persons of mature Christian faith
who have demonstrated exemplary Christian maturity and who are capable
of efficiently discharging the duties that pertain to this office. The
biblical qualifications referenced above can be summarized as follows:
|
|
Above reproach
Must lead by example and demonstrate a lifestyle free of patterns of
sin.
Husband of one wife
If married, must be a devoted spouse.
Temperate
Must be self-controlled, enslaved to nothing, free from excesses.
Prudent
Must be sober, sensible, wise, balanced in judgment, not given to quick,
superficial decisions based on immature thinking.
Respectable
Must demonstrate a well-ordered life and honorable behavior.
Hospitable
Must be unselfish with their personal resources. They must be willing
to share blessings with others.
Able to teach
Must be able to communicate the truth and sound doctrine in a non-argumentative
way.
Not addicted to wine
Must be free from addictions and willing
to limit their liberty for the sake of others.
Not pugnacious or quick tempered
Must be gentle, patient, and able to
exercise self-control in difficult situations.
Uncontentious
Must not be given to quarreling or selfish argumentation.
Free from the love of money
Must not be stingy, greedy, out for sordid gain, or preoccupied with
amassing material things.
Manage own household
Must have a well-ordered household and a healthy family life.
Not a new convert
Must not be new believers. They must have been Christians long enough
to demonstrate the reality of their conversion and the depth of their
spirituality.
Good reputation with outsiders
Must be well respected by unbelievers
and free from hypocrisy.
Not self-willed
must not be stubborn, prone to force opinions on others or abuse authority.
They must be servants.

decision.
